Travel Counsellors, the provider of bespoke corporate and leisure travel, has underlined its commitment to support the Manchester community with a £15,000 donation.

Travel Counsellors, the provider of bespoke corporate and leisure travel, has underlined its commitment to support the Manchester community, including those affected by the Manchester Arena bombing, with a £15,000 donation to the We Love MCR charities, divided equally between the Emergency Fund and the general Lord Mayor’s Charity.

The donation was handed over to The Lord Mayor of Manchester, Councillor Eddy Newman, at the firm’s Manchester office, as part of an official visit.

Travel Counsellors matched the £6,500 sum raised by its franchisees at its annual conference held at Manchester Central, as well as adding a further £2,000 donation.

Taking place over the weekend of the 11th – 12th November, the firm’s conference was opened by Parrs Wood School choir, who produced a memorable performance at the One Love Manchester memorial concert for the victims of the Manchester Arena bombings.

The We Love MCR Emergency Fund supports the bereaved families and the people injured in the Arena attack.

The We Love MCR charity aims to support the residents of Manchester in the greatest need, supporting a wide range of projects and initiatives. Having rebranded from the Lord Mayor of Manchester’s Charity Appeal Trust in 2011, the charity has supported over 140 community groups and projects in Manchester. This includes providing access to much needed funding through its ‘Community Grants Programme’, as well as providing family holidays from its ‘Short Breaks for All Grant Programme’.

Kirsten Hughes, UK managing director at Travel Counsellors, said: “Every member of our Travel Counsellors team was shocked to the core following the events at the Manchester Arena, with some personally affected by the tragedy. In the months since the attack, the city has shown its resilience and solidarity, supported by fantastic charities like We Love MCR.

“Our conference is usually a time of celebration, but we felt this year should have a period of reflection and remembrance. Our business is underpinned by a sense of caring, and our 1,700 Travel Counsellors apply the same care to their local communities as they do our customers and each other, so it’s an honour to be able to provide this donation. We hope it goes some way to supporting not just those affected by the attacks, but also those less fortunate families and individuals across Manchester.”

Councillor Eddy Newman, The Lord Mayor of Manchester, said: “I want to convey my thanks to Travel Counsellors and their conference delegates for their generous donation. I know this means a lot to the people of Manchester.”
