We’re supporting Manchester Cares, funding their ‘50 Days of Happiness’ project in Hulme & Longsight. How are they doing?…
Our Stronger Communities Grants to community groups in Manchester wards are one of our central projects – empowering and connecting our city’s areas and the great people who live in them.
Manchester Cares is a charity that aims to bridge the disconnect in communities between neighbours of starkly different ages, combating loneliness and uniting communities. Their ’50 Days of Happiness’ project in Hulme and Longsight, aims to hold 50 different clubs across the two areas!
Over in Hulme, Manchester Cares set up a monthly cooking club in the Aquarius Centre. Run by volunteer Helena, older and younger neighbours cook together to gain skills and meet people they might not meet otherwise. As you can see, everybody gets stuck in!
In Longsight they began a Ladies BoxFit Club in a local church. This has been a great way for older residents in the Longisght and Levenshulme area to work at their fitness, with local Nora (79) saying “This has been brilliant, I’ve loved it. I’m definitely coming to the next one!” – see Nora in action below!
So far, they have recorded 128 attendances from 44 older residents, and 79 attendances from 47 younger residents, which shows just how accomplished they are at bringing communities together. With their Outreach teams constantly engaging local organisations to further develop their presence, we can only expect these already great numbers to grow. We Love MCR are proud to be supporting Manchester Cares, a charity that clearly loves Mancunians as much as we do.
If you’re involved in, or know of, a community group that would benefit from our funding, or even a group of like-minded residents who want to start something new, then email us at firstname.lastname@example.org or download our Grant Application here.
