We Love Manchester Charity supports teenager Aliya with the financial help needed to support her path to the career she wants.
Aliya is a talented young woman from North Manchester who has just began her journey in further education. A determined student and Manchester Care Leaver, her referee said to us that Aliya is “hard working and passionate” which are necessary attributes given she’s embarking on a career path which requires an immense level of care and responsibility.
Aliya has enrolled onto the Advanced Policing course at Edge Hill, which is something she has firmly set her sights on. As Aliya still lives in North Manchester, she needs to be able to travel to Ormskirk from Manchester every day which is a sizable distance for someone reliant on public transport – especially during a pandemic. She has access to her mum’s car, which she’ll be able to use when she can drive. Her and her partner are both on Universal Credit at the moment, which is hard enough without having a baby on the way – which she does!
We’ve awarded Aliya a grant of £900 to enrol on an intensive driving course with a trusted local provider, and by the time she’ll be ready to go back into full time education after the birth of her child due in December, she’ll be able to drive there and back making the experience infinitely more accessible. Hear Aliya tell us what this grant means to her:
“I would really like to thank the We Love MCR Charity for awarding me with £900 towards driving lessons. This award is going to benefit me positively in so many ways. These lessons are going to go towards me passing driving so I can then commute to and from University and be able to take my newborn baby to appointments without a hassle. Thank you again from the bottom of my heart We Love MCR Charity.”
We are certain of Aliya’s success on her story – we’ll keep you updated on her journey as a Manchester Rising Star!
