We awarded Lauren, a brilliant young woman from Wythenshawe, a grant in our MRSF pilot scheme last year. Read on to see how she’s progressed…
At We Love MCR Charity, we have a commitment to supporting our city’s young people in making their next steps in education, employment or training through our Manchester’s Rising Stars fund (MRSF). We welcome applications from ambitious young people who might need a helping hand. Read more about the MRSF here, and also look out for our ambassador Maria’s story as a great example of the journeys our Rising Stars embark on.
One of our first rising stars, Lauren applied to the fund in 2019 for support to attend her dream drama course in London at LAMDA – the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. LAMDA is a highly prestigious institution with notable alumni including The Hobbit’s Richard Armitage, Chiwetel Ejiofor of 12 Years A Slave acclaim, Luther’s captivating Ruth Wilson & Iwan Rheon notorious for his role in Game Of Thrones! Lauren succeeded in getting a well-earnt scholarship which covered her tuition fees to the school but, as a care experienced young person from Wythenshawe, money was tight. Lauren applied to the Manchester’s rising stars fund for support towards her accommodation costs in London so she could concentrate on studies and maximize her opportunities whilst there.
We are absolutely delighted to hear that Lauren has graduated from the one year acting course at LAMDA and she is now preparing for her auditions to go back and do a three year course in order to obtain a degree.
Lauren has said:
“I cannot begin to explain how much the award from MRSF has helped me throughout my time in London, without this funding I would have really struggled to pay my rent which was a ridiculous amount meaning I would’ve been in a bit of a financial mess and not be able to continue my studies. With all the help and support given through MRSF it meant I didn’t have to work overnight alongside my full days of study meaning I finally got some sleep at night (which was so much needed)!! Without the help and support from We Love Manchester I would have struggled to financially support myself and may have been in a position where I couldn’t finish my course.
I will forever be thankful for We Love Manchester for how they have helped me. I urge anyone to help such an amazing charity if they are lucky enough to be able to do so – I know I will when I’m able to do and return the favour to someone who is starting off, just like me”
The whole We Love MCR Charity team are so proud to have supported Lauren to make the first step on her journey towards her goal of being an actress. We wish her all the luck in studying for her degree and can’t wait to see her in a silver screen blockbuster or the next hard-hitting BBC drama!
