We Love Manchester Charity supports Faidat with the financial help needed to purchase specialist equipment to pursue her passion.
Faidat is a brilliant young teenager from Moston, who came to us via a youth worker from 84 Youth, a great youth led organisation aiming to address youth issues resulting from social inequalities. She studies Psychology at Salford University, but has a fierce passion of becoming a DJ and one day, when current pandemic lockdowns are over, performing to the public as her main form of income. Faidat herself does voluntary work for KYSO who are a not for profit youth organisation based in Hulme with a focus on creative arts.
Currently unemployed and unable to afford equipment for herself, equipment that is often extremely expensive, she regularly attends DJ workshops at Moss Side Millenium Powerhouse to hone her craft. She is very supportive of the younger attendees, and is even being inducted as an official volunteer herself, which is testament to her personal qualities. Described as “an ambitious and determined young woman” by her referrer, we’re glad to welcome Faidat to the Manchester’s Rising Stars Fund.
We have awarded her the funds needed to purchase a kit including a mixer, studio speakers, CDJs and headphones, which will enable her to really crack on with the many hours of practise it takes to become a professional DJ! The costs associated with the profession can be a barrier to many, and it is a scene which has regularly had troubles in its representation of women & non-binary people, so we are incredibly proud to support Faidat.
Listen to Faidat’s clip below and hear in her own words how much it means to her!
We love Faidat, and we wish her every success and hope to hear mixing live somewhere in Manchester one day – we’ll keep you updated on her journey as a Manchester Rising Star!
