About Us
Manchester has a proud history of solidarity and standing up for those who need help. We know the power of community and that, as Mancunians, we have far more in common than that which divides us. From Peterloo to the Pankhursts, our city gives a voice to the voiceless - and the Manchester of today is no exception.
We Love MCR works with some of our most vulnerable people and most ambitious communities to help them write Manchester’s next chapter.
We know too well the problems that face us. Within our bright, international city, one in three of our children live in poverty, and one in 10 have no qualifications. Tragically, there are also those who seek to sow division within our communities.
We aim to address these challenges – by spreading opportunities and helping communities to build themselves up through direct support.

SHB Endowment Fund
The Sir Howard Bernstein Endowment Fund has been established for the benefit of young Mancunians, following a successful fundraising event to celebrate Sir Howard Bernstein’s retirement from Manchester City Council. Through the fund, we support young people and help them gain the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to succeed in education, employment and enterprise.
Sir Howard was Chief Executive of Manchester City Council for 20 years and retired in March 2017. Throughout his career, he led a range of regeneration-based projects – including the reconstruction of the city centre following the bomb in 1996; the developments associated with the hosting of the 2002 Commonwealth Games, including what is now the Etihad Campus; a range of major commercial, transport and cultural developments, including Spinningfields; the advent and expansion of Metrolink; the Bridgewater Hall; HOME at First Street; the Manchester Conference Centre; the City Art Gallery; and now the Factory.
He also led negotiations for the historic Devolution deal between Greater Manchester and the Government which included health and social care. He is now a strategic advisor to Deloitte and the City Football Group, and is an Honorary Professor of Politics at Manchester University.
On his retirement from Manchester City Council, Sir Howard dedicated his endowment fund to the young people of the city of Manchester. This fund has been set to work in a variety of projects, primarily the Manchester's Rising Stars Fund, our Summer Schools, and the work we've funded via Manchester Young Lives.
