What a pleasure and honour for the We Love Manchester Team recently to see one of our very own Manchester Rising Stars in action!!

We went along to see the inspirational Rachael swim at Wright Robinson, and were absolutely blown away by her stamina and determination, not to mention the tireless support that she receives from her family!

In October, the team received a compelling application to the Manchester’s Rising Stars Bursary Fund. Rachael was in desperate need of funding for a motorised attachment for her wheelchair.

After some very difficult months with rapid deterioration in Rachael’s condition, the attachment was absolutely essential to keep Rachael’s independence at school and socially.

Rachael has also shown incredible sporting prowess with a history of participation in several sports.

Despite the odds, Rachael is now an extraordinary swimmer, training with the Swim England National Paralympic Programme supported by Matt Walker MBE. Her training schedule includes being in the pool every day, sometimes twice a day!

Rachael’s family had exhausted every avenue for potential funding without success. Rachael faced an end to her sporting life, and a shrinking of her physical and social world, all down to a lack of resources for this essential equipment.

Our board of trustees were thrilled to award Rachael the funds she needs for the wheelchair attachment to keep her moving. Check her out in the video!

We have no doubt that Rachael is a rising star and one to watch on the competitive sporting stage. Go Rachael!
