Bill Egerton


Bill was born in 1944 and has been married to Maureen for over 50 years. They have one son and a granddaughter. As well as a long standing service as Trustee with We Love Manchester, Bill has spent much of his life serving the people of Manchester in a number of roles, not least that of the City’s Lord Mayor in 1992/1993. Bill was a City Councillor for 28 years during which time he was the Leader of the Manchester City Council from 1982 – 1984. He was chair of a number of Council committees such as Land and Development, Education Sub-Committee; Policy and Finance and Regeneration and Deputy of the Ship Canal Company.

Bill was appointed a Justice of the Peace in 1985 and served as Chair of Manchester Magistrates Bench for three years. He has served as Chair of North Manchester NHS Healthcare Trust; Director North Manchester NHS Healthcare Trust; a Member North West Lottery Board; Director Manchester Science Park; Director Manchester World Trade Centre; Director Manchester Airports Board; Director Air & Space Museum; Greater Manchester Police authority and a member of the Salford Division’s Committee for Social Responsibility in RC Diocese of Salford.
He was appointed an Honorary Alderman City of Manchester in 2007 and was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant Greater Manchester in 2004. Bill also serves as Chair of Governors at St Peter’s High School and St Willibrord’s Primary. He is also Deputy Chair at St Anne’s Ancoats RC Primary School.He was awarded the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice by His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI in March 2013.
