Councillor June Hitchen

Former Lord Mayor

June was born and raised in Manchester. She comes from a proud working-class family who have supported her in achieving all her aspirations. June has worked in a variety of jobs and has been a factory machinist, a market trader at Newton Heath Market, an office worker, and a microelectronic control engineer. Although she has had a diverse career, June’s true passion has always been politics. With a strong desire to make a difference in her community and to change things for the better for the people of Manchester, she became involved in local politics. June has been active for almost 25 years – the past 16 years as a local councillor representing the Miles Platting and Newton Heath ward. June has sat on various committees, and one of her proudest achievements is having the honour of becoming the first female Chair of Licensing for Manchester.

Of her year as Lord Mayor, June says:“It has been an honour and a privilege to represent this great city –a city I am so proud of.” June hopes her time as Lord Mayor of Manchester demonstrates that through hard work and perseverance you can achieve your aspirations and reach your goals.
