Aspiring veterinarian supported by Manchester's Rising Stars Fund

Taylor* is studying Level 3 Animal Care at The Manchester College**, a bright young woman with strong ambition to become a vet.

She enjoys working with animals every day, learning about animal biology, genetics and welfare, whilst studying determinedly to get the required grades she needs to get onto a competitive University course. Taylor is also a Care Leaver, living independently since she turned 18.

Taylor approached the MRSF for £750 for the equipment she needs to excel on her course, including a grooming kit, boiler suit, textbooks, a camera and laptop. This equipment will not only support her current studies but also her journey on into University and even her career as a vet beyond.

Taylor’s support worker, Joe Pacheco from Bedspace told us how she is looking to the future:

Taylor was referred to Bedspace following an unsettled period in Foster placement. Coming to Bedspace, Taylor learned all her independent living skills and has flourished in the placement - eventually taking the tenancy and managing the property exceptionally well. Taylor is a Care Leaver and is supported by Manchester Social Services. She presents with a maturity beyond her years, and absolutely has the requisite ambition to achieve.

Taylor said:

"I’m so grateful to receive this award from such a supportive charity so I can proceed with my ambitions. With these items I can move closer to my dream of being a qualified vet, and to help as many animals as I can. Thankyou for your support We Love MCR Charity!”

We’re so proud to support Taylor on the path to becoming a vet. Only 6% of care leavers enter Higher Education, and we’re especially proud to support these young people to overcome the multiple barriers they face.
