We Love Manchester Charity supports Kianna with the financial help needed for travel and equipment to complete her college course.
Kianna is a brilliant young woman from Manchester who is currently determined to carve out a career for herself in a vocation that she loves. She is currently living in supported accommodation, assisted by the longstanding youth homelessness charity DePaul UK at one of their Manchester service centres, who also referred her to our programme. They do great work in Manchester, and are in fact a past recipient of funding from We Love MCR Charity from our Stronger Communities Fund.
Kianna was forced to seek these alternative living arrangements after fleeing violence in the home. Impermanence in the home environment has been a struggle for her throughout her life, being a Care Leaver and living in various homes across the country. These create stumbling blocks to excelling in mainstream education, which Kianna has not been able to progress with in the past. However, she has always shown a keen interest in succeeding and focussing on aspirational targets, and has started a Level 2 Beauty Therapy course at a post-16 college, whilst securing herself paid employment at the same time.
The hours she works means her Universal Credit payments are reduced, a common problem as a sizable portion of Universal Credit claimants in the UK are already in work. We have awarded her the funds needed for travel for the remainder of her course & stationary equipment to complete her course to the best of her ability. We’re sure this support will help her to make a success on a path she’s already done so much work to reach.
In her own words:
“Thank you, so much to We Love Manchester Charity for funding these essential items for me. I am so chuffed that they will be removing the financial barrier for me to attend beauty college and complete my course.”
We love Kianna, and we wish her every success and hope to see her running her own business in her chosen Beauty Therapy field as soon as possible – we’ll keep you updated on her journey as a Manchester Rising Star!
